Conservatism and the Euphemism Treadmill

I wish fags were called fags again, the musk candy that is, not guys who like guys.  I don’t think we need a name for guys who like guys, but I think “fads” is a pretty lame name for the candy because they were moderately popular over a long time, not intensely popular for a brief period of time.

I liked it better when fairy penguins were fairy penguins, not little penguins. I used to like watching them flap their little flippers and think they were try-hard fairies - the fact that they are little always seemed self evident and boring.  I don’t think any person has reasonably been offended by their former name.

And I wish I could say something was retarded without being offensive, I never think about people who have different mental health to me when I use it, I don’t even think I use the word retarded to mean inferior, just absurd.

So many words and turns of phrase have meanings that seem so foreign to me, or feel like we shouldn’t need them to exist, or create distinctions where I don’t understand why there should be distinctions.  So many words and turns of phrase are used to create the impression that what we think and our perception of the world around us is invalid or we should feel guilty about it.  Our perception is invalid when it perpetuates being unjust or unfairness, and we should feel guilty about that, but why should we feel guilty for the way other people think about the words we use?  Words like these don’t have innate meanings, they only create thoughts and feelings in other people, yet we get held to task for the thoughts and feelings our words created outside of our control.

I think we should communicate in melodies from this point forward.
